چکیده

We present two-dimensional temperature map of the Perseus cluster based on multi-pointing observations with the ASCA GIS, covering a region with a diameter of ∼ 2. By correcting for the effect of the X-ray telescope response, the temperatures were estimated from hardness ratios and the complete temperature structure of the cluster with a spatial resolution of about 100 kpc was obtained for the first time. There is an extended cool region with a diameter of ∼ 20 and kT ∼ 5 keV at about 20 east from the cluster center. This region also shows higher surface brightness and is surrounded by a large ring-like hot region with kT ∼> 7 keV, and likely to be a remnant of a merger with a poor cluster. Another extended cool region is extending outward from the IC 310 subcluster. These features and the presence of several other hot and cool blobs suggest that this rich cluster has been formed as a result of a repetition of many subcluster mergers. ASCA Observations of the Temperature and Metal Distribution in the Perseus Cluster of Galaxies

Large-scale distributions of hot-gas temperature and Fe abundance in the Perseus cluster have been studied with multi-pointing observations by the GIS instrument on ASCA. Within a radius of 20 from the cluster center, the energy spectra requires two temperature components, in which the cool component indicates kT ∼ 2 keV and the hot-component temperature shows a significant decline from about 8...

Ni abundance in the core of the Perseus Cluster: an answer to the significance of resonant scattering

Using an XMM-Newton observation of the Perseus cluster we show that the excess in the flux of the 7-8 keV line complex previously detected by ASCA and BeppoSAX is due to an overabundance of Nickel rather than to an anomalously high Fe Heβ/Fe Heα ratio. This observational fact leads to the main result that resonant scattering, which was assumed to be responsible for the supposed anomalous Fe Heβ...

0 Temperature Map of the Virgo Cluster of Galaxies Observed with ASCA

The temperature distribution of the intracluster medium (ICM) in the Virgo cluster of galaxies has been derived from extensive mapping observations with ASCA covering an area of 19 deg2. In the spectral analysis, the inner region within a radius of ∼ 60 from M87 is characterized by an ICM temperature of kT ∼ 2.5 keV with little variation. On the other hand, the outer regions indicate significan...

0 Central Elemental Abundance Ratios in the Perseus Cluster : Resonant Scattering or SN Ia Enrichment ?

We have determined elemental abundance ratios in the core of the Perseus cluster for several elements. These ratios indicate a central dominance of SN Ia ejecta similar to that found for A496, A2199 and A3571 (Dupke & White 2000a). Simultaneous analysis of ASCA spectra from SIS1, GIS 2&3 shows that the ratio of Ni to Fe abundances is ∼ 3.4 ± 1.1 times Solar within the central 4. This ratio is c...
